Box 1299
Everett, WA 98206
subjec•.:: Red Rose Building vs. First Interstate Bank Building
-Beissic Resistance Conparison-
Our Ref.: #83-868
To Whom This may concern:
This office investigated the seismic resistance of both the Red
Rose Building, located at Wetmore and California Avenues in
Everett, and the First Interstate Bank office, located on Rucker
Avenue and 42nd Street, Everett.
Based on the assumption that the First Interstate Bank building
complies with the requirements of the 1970 Edition of the
Uniform Building Code (U.B.C.), and thus must withstand
horizontal loads of V-1x1.33x0.lxW=0.133W, e.g. 13.3% x the mass
(weight).
The Red Rose Building was designed by this office and complies
with the 1985 U.B.C. and it will withstand horizontal loads of
V=0.75xl.33x0.14xWxl.5=0.21, e.g. 21% x the mass (weight).
Conclusions:
The Red Rose Building has a 58% greater lateral resistance
against earthquakes than the bank building.
Respectfully submitted,
STRUCTURAL DESIGN ASSOCIATES, INC.
by
Kase Vanden Ende, P.E.
president
KVE/jme
