Toning pigments shall be <br /> I 21 laminar silicates, titanium dioxide, and inorganic oxides only. There shall be no <br /> 22 settling or color variation. Tinting shall occur at the factory at the time of manufacture <br /> 23 and placement in containers, prior to initial shipment. Use of vegetable or marine oils, <br /> I 24 paraffin materials, stearates, or organic pigments in any part of coating formulation <br /> 25 will not be permitted. The color of pigmented sealer shall be as specified by the <br /> 26 Contracting Agency. The Contractor shall submit a 1-quart wet sample, a drawdown <br /> I <br /> 27 color sample, and spectrophotometer or colorimeter readings taken in accordance <br /> 28 with ASTM D2244, for each batch and corresponding standard color card. The <br /> 29 calculated Delta E shall not exceed 1.5 from the Commission Internationale de <br /> 30 l'Eclairage (CIELAB) when measured at 10 degrees Standard Observer and <br /> I 31 Illuminant D 65. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 The 1-quart wet sample shall be submitted in the manufacturer's labeled container <br /> I 34 with product number, batch number, and size of batch. The companion drawdown <br /> 35 color sample shall be labeled with the product number, batch number, and size of <br /> 36 batch. The Contractor shall submit the specified samples and readings to the <br /> 37 Engineer at least 14 calendar days prior to the scheduled application of the sealer. <br /> I 38 The Contractor shall not begin applying pigmented sealer until receiving the <br /> 39 Engineer's written approval of the pigmented sealer color samples. <br /> 40 <br /> I 41 9-08.3(2) Exposed Aggregate Concrete Coatings and Sealers <br /> 42 9-08.3(2)A Retardant Coating <br /> 43 Retardant coating shall exhibit the following properties: <br /> I 44 <br /> 45 1. Retards the set of the surface mortar of the concrete without preventing <br /> 46 the concrete to reach the specified 28 day compressive strength. <br /> 47 <br /> 48 2.
