I <br /> I 1 9-28.AP9 <br /> 2 Section 9-28, Signing Materials and Fabrication <br /> 3 April 1, 2019 <br /> I4 9-28.2 Manufacturer's Identification and Date <br /> 5 The second sentence is revised to read: <br /> 6 <br /> I 7 In addition, the width and height dimension, in inches, the Contract number, and the <br /> 8 number of the sign as it appears in the Plans shall be placed using 3-inch series C black <br /> 9 letters on the back of destination, distance, and large special signs. <br /> I 10 <br /> 11 9-28.10 Vacant <br /> 12 This section, including title, is revised to read: <br /> I i3 <br /> 14 9-28.10 Digital Printing <br /> 15 Transparent and opaque durable inks used in digital printed sign messages shall be as <br /> 16 recommended by the manufacturer. When properly applied, digital printed colors shall <br /> II 17 have a warranty life of the base retroreflective sign sheeting. Digital applied colors shall <br /> 18 present a smooth surface, free from foreign material. and all messages and borders shall <br /> 19 be clear and sharp. Digital printed signs shall conform to 70% of the retroreflective <br /> I 20 minimum values established for its type and color. Digitally printed signs shall meet the <br /> 21 daytime color and luminance, and nighttime color requirements of ASTM D 4956. No <br /> 22 variations in color or overlapping of colors will be permitted. Digital printed permanent <br /> I 23 traffic signs shall have an integrated engineered match component clear protective <br /> 24 overlay recommended by the sheeting manufacturer applied to the entire face of the sign. <br /> 25 On Temporary construction/maintenance signs printed with black ink only, the protective <br /> 26 overlay film is optional, as long as the finished sign has a warranty of a minimum of three <br /> I 27 years from sign sheeting manufacturer. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 All digital printed traffic control signs shall be an integrated engineered match component <br /> I 30 system. The integrated engineered match component system shall consist of <br /> 31 retroreflective sheeting, durable ink(s), and clear overlay film all from the same <br /> 32 manufacturer applied to aluminum substrate conforming to Section 9-28.8. <br /> I 33 <br /> 34 The sign fabricator shall use an approved integrated engineered match component <br /> 35 system as listed on the Qualified Products List (QPL). Each approved digital printer shall <br /> 36 only use the compatible retroreflective sign sheeting manufacturer's engineered match <br /> 37 component system products. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 Each retroreflective sign sheeting manufacturer/integrated engineered match component <br /> I 40 system listed on the QPL shall certify a department approved sign fabricator is approved <br /> 41 to operate their compatible digital printer. The sign fabricator shall re-certify annually with <br /> 42 the retroreflective sign manufacturer to ensure their digital printer is still meeting <br /> I 43 manufacturers specifications for traffic control signs. Documentation of each re- <br /> 44 certification shall be submitted to the QPL Engineer annually. <br /> 45 <br /> 46 9-28.11 Hardware <br /> I47 The last paragraph is revised to read: <br /> 48 <br /> 49 All steel parts shall be galvanized in accordance with AASHTO M111.
