C
Narmon 3 Associates
15 April 1985
w-r,45
Pa9e 9
entails the risk of possible significant differential settlement in the future.
As a minimum. the "floated" region should be overexcavated two feet and replaced
with structural fill compacted to 90 percent (ASTM:D 1557) before placing a
pavement section..
6.0 CLOSURE
The conclusions and recommehdations presented in this report are based in part on
field explorations undertaken for this study. It is our opinion that the
property is well-suited for development as we understand it, provided the
recommendations oulined herein are followed. Site preparation should include
removal of organic-rich material and existing fills. Buildings supported by
conventional spread footings may be placed upon either undisturbed naturai
glacial till or structural fill placed as outlined herein. The southwest
building would need to be relocated in order to take advanta9e of more favorable
conditions and allow the use of shallow spread footings for the south end. We
encourage care be"-taken to avoid disturbance of bearing soils duriny
wnstructionr especially during wet weather. Finally, we anticipate findin9s in
this report to reflect conditions encountered during construr, ion. Hawever. the
nature of geotechnical engineering requires extrapolation batween explorations.
and variations may become evident during construction. If soil or water
conditions are encountered which cause concern or are not discussed in this
report. we should be contacted to determine if additional or alternative
recommendations are required. We are available for any necessary consultation,
desiyn review, and construction observation se^vices. If you have any questions
regarding this report, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Respectfully submitted;
RITTENHJUSE-ZEMAN ASSOCIATES, INC.
Scott Kindred.
