the base of the sign. There's nothing right or wrong. We deliberated and that was the decision that was
made.
Barbara Lamoureaux: How big is the base?
Paul Kaftanski: It's generally the same width as the monument sign.
Neil Anderson: I am thinking of the sign at Grand Avenue Park and the one at American Legion Park,
with a concrete base. Is that what you're talking about.
Paul Kaftanski: Those are not customized, but there is a customization opportunity with the base.
That could be investigated.
Gail Chism: Henry M. Jackson Park has a sign totally different than anything else. There is a
precedent for a different sign.
Neil Anderson:
the plaza.
We need to focus our efforts tonight on making a recommendation on the name for
Bobby Olsen: Paul, I noticed that all the other parks in the city have a name with ends with "Park."
Are there other precedents for plaza right now that end with "Plaza," or will this be the only plaza by
title?
Paul Kaftanski:
department.
It would be the only plaza by title, but we don't view that as an issue in the
Bobby Olsen: I didn't know if there was already a standard, like a park is a green space X size, a
plaza is Y size, and a place is Z size.
Paul Kaftanski: We have an appendix that classifies park types. At the time the plan was adopted by
City Council in 2007, we did not have a plaza and probably nobody had the foresight to develop a
classification called "plaza." When we update the plan in 2016, we will make sure the classification is
there.
Barbara Lamoureux: So does that mean we don't have to follow the Parks standard rules, then?
Paul Kaftanski: No, but good try.
Neil Anderson: It looks like we are down to the names recommended, but is there still opportunity for
another suggestion at this point?
Jan Meston: I think so.
Dave Ramstad: The letter from Mr. Meins about recognizing the Wobblies is a right one. This is a
very well thought out letter and he is right on every point. The labor history of Everett is strong and
recognized around the world except for in Everett. We don't talk about it. But we are working on a
concept of a plaza concept at the end of Hewitt, and that would be a name appropriate for the location
because that's where the event occurred.
Neil Anderson; I agree that the west end of Hewitt would be more appropriate for this suggestion. I
also wanted to make one more suggestion. At the new Museum of History and Industry in Seattle in the
3
