<br /> Dear Wendy:
<br /> Thank you for the presentation before the Everett Historical Commission on
<br /> January 27, 2016 concerning the renovation and preservation of the Carnegie Library.
<br /> The Carnegie Library, designed by A.F. Heide/ is almost 111 years old, having been
<br /> completed in July of 1905. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is
<br /> an example of the Carnegie Library Style with a brick facade, red-tile hip roof,
<br /> symmetrically placed Italianate arched windows, a pronounced cornice, and pilasters
<br /> on both sides of the arched front entry.
<br /> The work the County proposes is impressive: brick restoration, roof drainage
<br /> restoration, light wells to e)(pose lower level windows, sympathetic railings, replacing
<br /> "storefront" doors with new front doors matching originals, other appropriately
<br /> proportioned door and window replacements, and carrying original detail throughout..
<br /> The County's presentation indicated economic restraints and Leed Silver requirements
<br /> of the State's Capital Heritage Grant will prevent the restoration of the original
<br /> windows. Pella Northwest showed how other public and private historic buildings have
<br /> used the aluminum encased wood windows proposed for the Carnegie Library.
<br /> The Everett Historical Commission voted unanimously to endorse the County's plans for
<br /> restoration of the Carnegie Library, as presented January 26th.
