L&I would like the elevator
upgraded which would be a significant cost to the owner.
In analyzing the existing building it appears that if the same building was constructed today that an elevator
would not be required to be installed per the IBC. My reasoning is outlined below.
- The IBC reads that if the building is less than 5 stories tall and 5% of the total number of dwelling
units are on the ground floor then an elevator is not required.
- The Cascadian Apartment Building is 3 stories tall.
- The total number of dwelling units in the building is 42.
- 5%of those dwelling units need to be on the ground floor.
- 5%of 42= 2.1. There are 6 existing ground floor dwelling units.
From the code study above an elevator is not required in the Cascadian Apartment Building and I request
on behalf of my client that the existing elevator can be removed.
Sincerely;
each,Nes &Hall Architects
41$
ndrew M. •",'AIA
President
2727 Oakes Avenue,Suite 100•Everett,WA 98201■425-259-0868.877-857-8972•bnhObnharch.com
