Irs <br /> JOINT RESOLUTION NO. <br /> 7438 <br /> EVERETT <br /> WASHINGTON <br /> A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR'S OFFICE AND EVERETT CITY COUNCIL HONORING THE LIFE OF CARL C. <br /> GIPSON <br /> WHEREAS,Snohomish County lost a valued member of the community on October 8th,2019 with the <br /> passing of Carl Gipson at the age of 95; <br /> AND,in 1924 Carl was born in rural Arkansas, during segregation in the Deep South,yet Carl was able to <br /> find his way through a difficult path into a life of true service; <br /> AND,Carl's service to the Community and Country began when he was enlisted into the Navy in 1943 to <br /> serve at Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island; <br /> AND,after his military service Carl settled in Everett and would go on to be a true champion for civil rights <br /> in Snohomish County;and <br /> AND,Carl was a true trailblazer, becoming the first African American member of the Everett City Council, <br /> Gipson would leave a path for incredible leaders to follow;and <br /> AND, Gipson was key in shaping the future of Snohomish County by being one of the main proponents of <br /> bringing the Naval Station to Everett;and <br /> AND,during his 24 years on the city council Carl was a voice for those traditionally forgotten fighting to <br /> ensure the city was livable for the elderly and those with disabilities;and <br /> WHEREAS,Carl Gipson honored Snohomish County with his grace and many years of public service, and <br /> his legacy lives on through his family and the incredible number of lives he was able to touch; <br /> NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,that the Mayor of Everett and the and Everett City Council do hereby <br /> recognize Carl Gipson for his lifetime of public service in Everett and Snohomish County <br /> Signed this 23`d day of October 2019. <br /> t i <br /> Olaiii...4....i / <br /> Scott Bader, President Judy Tuoh ,Vice 'resident <br /> �: I Roberts, unci) Member Jef ../e,Council Member <br /> ---0 / / ' <br /> Ir__ t urp "Ali;.- / Liz Vogeli, ..un .er <br /> 0 . / . <br /> Brr/da Stonecipher •.0 F it Member C n, Mayor <br />
