The grant program is known as"Growing
Transit Communities." Everett is a partner in the grant application,and has committed many hours of staff time to
support the program.
The Regional Compact is a non-binding pledge to work with many partners to implement the Vision 2040 Regional
Growth Strategy within the Sound Transit light rail corridors,which include a corridor that will terminate in Everett.
The strategies accompanying the Growing Transit Communities program support:
1) Attracting more of the region's housing and employment growth to high capacity transit communities;
2) Providing housing choices to a full range of incomes near high-capacity transit;and
3) Increasing access to opportunity for existing and future residents of transit communities.
The City can consider using many of the planning strategies for land use changes,housing needs,and transportation
improvements in high capacity transit station areas for both light rail and bus rapid transit. A copy of the Growing
Transit Communities corridor action strategies has been provided separately to the City Council.
RECOMMENDATION(Exact action requested of Council):
Authorize the Mayor to Sign the Regional Compact related to the Puget Sound Regional Council "Growing
Transit Communities"Program.
15
