riStrategy 1: Establish a Regional Program to <br /> Support Thriving and Equitable Transit <br /> Communities <br /> In order to carry out the goals and strategies envisioned by the Growing Transit Communities <br /> 7 Partnership, a continued regional effort, based within PSRC and guided by an ongoing coalition of <br /> regional stakeholders, is needed to promote thriving and equitable transit communities in the region. <br /> This effort should be expanded beyond the light rail corridors that are the focus of the Partnership's <br /> work to include other high-capacity transit nodes in the region and to involve new partners across <br /> multiple sectors. <br /> Puget Sound Regional Council <br /> 1.1. Provide staff support for the work of a Growing Transit Communities Partnership beyond the term of the current <br /> Sustainable Communities grant, with guidance from an advisory committee of diverse public and private <br /> stakeholders. <br /> 1.2. Create a regional transit oriented development implementation program at PSRC with sufficient staffing and <br /> work plan to further the GTC Strategy and including actions in the areas of attracting growth, providing <br /> affordable housing,and improving equitable engagement and access to opportunity within transit communities. <br /> 1.3. Build on the foundation established through the GTC Affordable Housing Action Strategy and the PSRC's <br /> Housing Innovations Program with ongoing staffing of a regional housing affordability initiative focused on <br /> meeting the needs for housing in regional centers and other transit communities. <br /> ul 1.4. Expand the geographic scope of the Partnership through implementation of the GTC Strategy beyond the three <br /> C long-range light rail corridors to also include current and planned transit communities around stations for <br /> BMW <br /> commuter rail, bus rapid transit, streetcar,and other high capacity transit investments in the region. <br /> Q1.5. Collaborate with local governments and other stakeholders to explore options for regional designation of <br /> selected transit communities based on their potential to provide regional benefits and alignment with the GTC <br /> Strategy. <br /> -0 1.6. Establish a regional peer networking exchange for staff at cities, other public agencies, and relevant non- <br /> Cgovernmental organizations working on transit community development. <br /> E Transit Agencies <br /> 0 1.7. Participate as a member of a regional TOD implementation program advisory committee. <br /> W 1.8. Continue to strengthen agency partnerships, policies, programs and plans to support thriving and equitable <br /> OC transit communities. <br /> Local Governments <br /> 1.9. Participate as a member of a regional TOD implementation program advisory committee. <br /> 1.10.Continue to strengthen local partnerships, policies, programs, and plans to support thriving and equitable transit <br /> communities. <br /> Other Partners <br /> 1.11.Support and participate in an ongoing regional coalition for thriving and equitable transit communities, where <br /> applicable as a member of a regional TOD implementation program advisory committee. <br /> 1.12.Continue to strengthen partnerships, policies, programs and plans to support thriving and equitable transit <br /> communities. <br /> Priority Transit Communities for this Strategy <br /> • Regional programs and initiatives would apply to all current and potential transit communities around multiple modes <br /> of high capacity transit in the region. <br /> 26 <br /> The Growing Transit Communities Strategy ( Public Review Draft ( May 2013 <br />
