4 <br /> ORDINANCE NO. <br /> AN ORDINANCE Related to the International Residential <br /> Code, Amending Section 1 of Part 2 of Ordinance No. 3196-10 <br /> (Chapter 16.01.010 EMC). <br /> Whereas, International Residential Code, as adopted by the Washington <br /> State Code Council, is a part of the state building code; and <br /> Whereas, the state building code is in effect in all cities and counties in <br /> Washington, subject to certain local amendments; and <br /> Whereas, the State Building Code Council updated the state building <br /> code in 2012, which updates went into effect on July 1, 2013; and <br /> Whereas, pursuant to the state building code effective prior to the current <br /> code, townhouses were required to have automatic sprinklers if the wall <br /> separating the dwellings (the common wall) was fire-resistance-rated for one <br /> " hour (under most circumstances sprinklers are not required in townhouses with <br /> common walls that are fire-resistance rated for two or more hours); and <br /> Whereas, the requirement that townhouses with common walls that are <br /> fire-resistance-rated for one hour have automatic sprinklers was not carried <br /> through in the 2012 updates; and <br /> Whereas, City Council finds that a local amendment to the state building <br /> code to require townhouses with one-hour fire-resistance-rated common walls to <br /> have sprinklers is consistent with the City's past regulation of townhouses and <br /> serves to protect the public health, safety, and welfare; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> Section 1. Section 1 of Part 2 of Ordinance No. 3196-10 (EMC 16.01.010), <br /> which reads as follows: <br /> Amendments to the International Building Code (hereinafter referred to as "IBC") <br /> and the International Residential Code (hereinafter referred to as "IRC") <br /> A. Sections 103 of the IBC and IRC are hereby deleted in their entireties. <br /> B. Sections 104.3 of the IBC and IRC are hereby deleted and replaced with <br /> the following: <br /> 10 <br />
