A buried concrete pedestal (possibly attached to an old foundation) measuring about 21h feet by 2'/2 feet
was observed within test pit TP-12. A 4-inch-thick concrete slab measuring approximately 27 feet by
20 feet and a 14-foot-long by 12-inch-wide by 16-inch-high wall was observed at the ground surface south
of TP-14. The approximate location of the concrete slab is shown on the Site Plan, Figure 2.
Weathered Glacial Till. Weathered glacial till was observed in several explorations below the topsoil and
fill materials, especially in the northern area of the 115kV yard and under the 230kV yard. The
weathered till horizon generally ranges from 1 to 9 feet thick and generally consists of inedium dense to
dense silty fine sand with varying amounts of gravel and cobbles.
Unweathered Glacial Till. Relatively unweathered glacial till was observed below the weathered till
and/or fill in the explorations. The unweathered till generally consists of very dense silty fine sand with
varying amounts of gravel and occasional cobbles. However, the dense glacial soils in test pit TP-15
consisted of very dense sand with silt, gravel, and occasional cobbles and may possibly be a glacial
outwash rather than glacial till. The unweathered till was generally encountered 1 to 181/2 feet below the
ground surFace and extended to the depths explored. Although not observed in our explorations, glacial
till commonly contains boulders.
iABLE 1.
