LK."Open and competitive examination" means an examination, as determined by the civil service commission,to establish an eligibility list for a classified position,which is open to anyone meeting the basic requirements as stated in the call for applicants. MI. "Position" means a group of current duties and responsibilities assigned by competent authority requiring the employment of one person. NM. "Probationary employee" means an employee in a classified position who has not yet completed the probationary period. 9:N. "Promotion" means the assignment of an employee to a position in a higher classification having a higher minimum and maximum salary than the position from which his assignment is made. PO. "Promotional examination" means an examination open only to city employees who meet the requirements as stated in the call for applicants. QP. "Reduction in rank" means the movement of an employee from one classification to another classification having a lower rate of pay, excluding reclassification. P,Q. "Suspension" means a permanent or temporary cessation or reduction of wages. &R."Temporary appointment" means the appointment of a person having no civil service status to a classified position. S. "Termination" means the involuntary separation of any employee of the city by the appointing authority. T. "Uniformed/Uniformed Service" means the classifications of Police Officer and subsequent ranks; Firefighter and subsequent ranks. Section 6. The City Clerk and the codifiers of this Ordinance are authorized to make necessary corrections to this Ordinance including, but not limited to,the correction of scrivener's/clerical errors, references, ordinance numbering, section/subsection numbers, and any internal references. Section 7. The City Council hereby declares that should any section, paragraph, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance be declared invalid for any reason, it is the intent of the City Council that it would have passed all portions of this ordinance independent of the elimination of any such portion as may be declared invalid. Section 8. The enactment of this Ordinance shall not affect any case, proceeding, appeal or other matter currently pending in any court or in any way modify any right or liability, civil or criminal,which may be in existence on the effective date of this Ordinance.
