Introduction:
This action affects Jackson Park, located at 17th Street and Chestnut.
The proposed action on an adjacent, 1.2 acre, City owned, vacant property is to amend the
Comprehensive Plan map designation from 1.6 (Multiple Family)to 2.0 (Parks/Public Open Space)
and to rezone the property from R-3 (Multiple Family)to P (Public Park Zone).
B. Background:
1. The plan for the property is to develop it as a community garden, while integrating it into the •
overall Jackson Park site.
2. Jackson Park is in the Delta Neighborhood, near the northern border of the Riverside
Neighborhood. Staff met with both the Delta and Riverside neighborhoods regarding this action to
explain the project, answer questions and share ideas. Present were both the Parks Department
and the Planning Department to provide information to the two neighborhoods.
3. Cost of improvements to the neighborhood park portion of Jackson and the community garden is
being paid in part through grants received by the Parks Department.
4.
