Acceptable freestanding signs <br /> 1. Minimum Lettering. <br /> a. A minimum of iettering height of six inches for the primary business name and three inches for secondary business <br /> names is required for readability. <br /> b. Freestanding signs for individual businesses are encouraged to include the street address number. <br /> 2. Niaterials and Design. Freestanding signs shall utilize materials and architectural design elements that are consistent <br /> with the architecture of the 6uildings. Freestanding signs must have a substantial base that is at least half as wide and <br /> thick (measured horizontally) as the sign itself. Sign bases must have an architectural treatment that incorporates <br /> materials similar to the sign and/or the business's building. (Note [hat the city may relax the dimensional requirements <br /> for the base if it is a sculptural element such as in the bottom right-hand photo of Figure 316.090-5.) <br /> 3.
