•
ral ART ANDERSON TASK: FAGOS001 DATE: 08/10/2017
ASSOCIATES TITLE: PREP:ADT
VALUE sEYOND ENG,NEER,NG ffirrif
Certified Machine Foundation Drawings
202 Pacific Avenue
Bremerton,WA 98337
360-479-560o /www.artanderson.com Supporting Calculations
Project Description:
Three Okuma MU-6300V 5-Axis Vertical Machining Centers are to be installed at Umbra Cuscinetti in Everett, WA
In addition, a Kuka robot on a linear translation track will be installed adjacent to the machines, along with some
material storage area. Portions of the floor have designated flatness criteria. This information was provided to AAA
by Gosiger. The following information pertinent to the design was obtained from the 2013 structural drawing set
provided to us.
Allowable bearing capacity of soil is 3,000 psf when bearing on dense native material or compacted fill
Coefficient of subgrade reaction for mat foundations: 150 pci
Slabs bear on undisturbed soil or structural fill compacted to 95% maximum dry density
Column which sits between machines is on building grid point F5
Existing slab on grade is 6"with welded wire fabric or rebar at its center
Column footing is 6'6"x6'6"and 18"deep
A vapor barrier was used below the slab
The slab has, at minimum, 20'spaced control joints
Machine Foundation Calculations
Machine Weight 37,180 lbs
Max workpiece weight 990 lbs
Total 38,170 lbs
The area of machine foundation from Okuma drawing is 145.67"x 98.43", approximately 100 square feet
A 19.69"slab is specified on the Okuma drawing. This is thicker than what is required for strength, but
a 20"slab will be used, to follow Okuma specifications. The larger foundation will create a more rigid
base to help with vibration control.
Weight of concrete
20"thick, 150 pcf 24,893 lbs
Pressure applied to soil
from concrete and
machine 631 psf
4.38 psi
The Okuma drawing calls for 6.44 psi ground resistance, which appears to include a 1.5 safety factor from the actual
pressure of 4.38. Since the soil has a bearing capacity of 3,000 psf, approximately 20.8 psi, it will support the machin
It should be compacted to 95% maximum dry density, as originally called for under the existing floor.
Slab Thickness Check
Reference: UFC 3-320-06A Concrete Floor Slabs on Grade Subjected to Heavy Loads
Per the referenced UFC, the maximum allowable stationary live load is:
w=257.876*s*sqrt(kh/E)
Final Calcs
C-1 OF 5
