A further check in the files indicates no reason why a secund exit from the basement should not be required. A letter sent from the Fire Department on December 4, 1979 clearly states that "if plans to remodel the building become a reality, then a second means of egress from the basement area and from the main floor area will be required." A subsequent letter from Mr. Robert E. Wilson of Olympic Bank, the facility manager at that time, stated that at the time of an anticipated remodel the Fire Marshal's office would be contacted to discuss these life safety aspects. It appears that neither letter has been complied with at this time. Since the situation in the building at 7502 Evergreen Way has been in non-compliance since the original construction and the aforementioned letters clearly outline the requirements needed to bring the building into compliance for the occupants' life safety, you are hereby notified to provide a second exit from the basement, under permit from the City of Everett Building Department, or discontinue any use of the basement other than for service of the building. Employee lounges, restrooms, and storage uses are not considered service of the building. Please give this matter your urgent attention. If you have further questions, please call 259-8726.
