The property is known to be impacted -by metals contamination <br />from the ASARCO Everett Smelter facility. The State of Washington has obtained funds through a <br />settlement in the bankruptcy of ASARCO for the remediation of hazardous substances (The Everett Smelter <br />cleanup project). <br />DOE bids, awards, and manages the remediation and restoration contract. The City, through the Parks and <br />Recreation Department, will oversee the contract work with DOE and monitor compliance with the <br />requirements of the Agreement. The work will be contracted to begin November 1, 2014 with an anticipated <br />completion date of May 30, 2015. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Authorize the Mayor to sign the Agreement with the Washington State Department of Ecology for American <br />Legion Memorial Park Access, Remediation and Restoration. <br />29 <br />
