pAYID L. NELSON AND ASSOCIATES, IN.
Consulting Enginecring Geology
September 28, 1984
• Project No. 7884
?age four
a potential perched waier condition within this area. It appears
that the ground watar within this area is derived from on-site
or fron nearby areas, and could be controlled. Surface water
areas were observed within the 5ite area. Generally, ihese
consist of local low spots within the area where suz•face water
is allowed to pond, and due to the fine grained nature of the
site soils, does not readily percolate into the subgrade soils .
Conclusions
Based upon our investigation performed within the site area and
past experience within the area, we believe hat the site can be
developed as anticipated, provide that recommendations as pre- '
i
sented herein are utilized for construction.
Recommendations
Site development within the proposed building areas should be
performed such that building foundations are placed into the
medium dense to dense weathered glacial eoils or the dense
glacial sozls. We anticipate that foundations for the large
three store building within the north portion of the site can
be placed within the glacial soils below the loose surficial
soils approximately j' to 4' below grade . Foundations could
consist of continuous or spread type :ootings placed within the I
dense natural soils which are clean, dry and compact. Pootings ',
should be placed a minimum of 18" beiow finish grade as to be
below fros+. level. Any loosened or wet sils should be removed
from the footing excavation prior to placement of footing concrete .
Anticipated maximum allowable soil pressures of 4000 pounds per
square foot (psf) should te utilized for foundations placed as
specified. The central retail building within the area of TB-4
and TB-5 should ariticipate foundation preparation and soil
bearing loads as specified abore . Slab-on-grade preparation
within these building areas should anticipate removal of the
surficial organic topsoil and fill , compaction of the subgrade
. •

i
I

I
