The enhancements to the traffic signals were to include the installation of backplates and reflective backplate borders. The commercially available backplates were not compatible with the existing traffic signal heads. Cost analysis for custom fabrication of individual backplates was conducted and determined to be cost prohibitive. Engineering staff are currently pursuing long-term replacement of the signal heads at the end of their useful service life. WSDOT has been informed that the grant will not be utilized and has closed the project. RECOMMENDATION (Exact action requested of Council): Approve the proposed ordinance closing a special improvement project entitled"Everett Mall Way Traffic Signal Safety Enhancement",Fund 303,Program 083, as established by Ordinance No. 3130-09. 11
