.. .. ..ts

.—vr....w..rnw..vr.eeypit' _
J-736 . •
Page 7
material. Loose FILL soils (as encouttered in the area of
test pit TP-7) should also be stripped to, denser fill or natur-
al soils. Organically contaminated stripped, soils shou;d be
stockpiled.and removed from the site or orherwise wasted and
not reused as structural fill.
The mounded rubble piles present on the site are unsuitable for
fill and should be cleared and wasted from the site.
Existing concrete foundation wall, slabs, walkway or curbs,
aad asphaltic pavements, should be broken up and removed from
the site, or incorporated into structural fill. Utilizing con-
crete and/or asphalt fragments as structural fill materials
would require that each piece be no larger than 6 inch maximum`..
size and that the fragments be completely surrounded by a soil
matrix. Utility structures located below the gzound surface
such as manholes, pipes and conduits should be overexcavated
and removed if discovared during construction. Recoendations
concerning backfilling and compaction are presented in the fol-
lowing section "Structural Fill".
The valley area at the northeast end of the site will be wet
and will :esult in a mired and difficult working surface for
construction equipment. Drainage provisions should be implement-
ed at the earliest possible time during site preparation
such that the area is allowed to drain as much as possible. We
suggest that a series of shallow herringbone ditches be exca-
vated draining into a central ditch running along the axis of
the valley bottom to a discharge area off the siCe.
After the valley area has been drained, cleared, and stripped
, of organic rich soils, a permeble granular working surface
should be placed over the entire surface of the lowland area
(generally below elevation 75 feet) which will receive structural
fill. The granular material should consist of predominantly sand
J
