June 26, 2000
Plan Review Notes.
Project: Everett Aquasox Bleachers
Address: 3721 Oakes
Permit: B0005-021
C
Description: ConsWct two nonombustible exteior bleacher assemblies each having
an occupant load of 657.
The following issues arose during plan review.
Crosa-aisle width. Section 1008.5.5 states that the minimum width for a cross-sisle shall
be 54". It fwt6er states that a lerger width may be calculated based on Section 1004.3.2.
Section 1004.3.2 dces not address how to calculste cross-aisles. Based on the ambiguity
of the secdon, and assurance from the manufactnrer (nation-wide sales) that the 54" wide
cross-aisle is an industry standard, the 54" width was acceptod for this project.
Number of e=ib. Section 1008 docs not specify the number of exits required, but states
that each cross-aisle shall lead to an exit, or exterior perimeter ramp. Within a building,
the room serving the bleachers would be cequired to have three exits (with an occupent
load gmater than 500). Section 1008 is not specific as to whether Secrion 1004.2.3.4
applies to exterior bleachers. Further, Section 1008.7.4 staus that travel distance may be
unlimited if the seating is outside, and non-combustibk (type II). A This allowance
makes a third exit superfluous as not travel distance is required. Fot the bleachers, the
widths of the exit stairs and iamp were then based on the occupant load (657) and sized
per Table 10-B.
