IaWA INSP[CTION ACTtVITIES RELATED 70 THIS ITEM: Due to Class B asphalt mix showing up on the job site, Jerry Rt,smussen of Spea West Construction called Tom Kcarns of DOWL Engincers to acquire aulhorization to use Class 8 Asphallic Concrete in place oi the HMA 1l2"PG•�4-22 as called out in Ihe drawings. Tom Keams authorized lhe su�slilulien. HWA carried out visual observation, periodic femperature monitoring, and compaction iesling of lhe compleletl paving. Compaction test results are summarized on the aHached 'Field Compaction 7est ReporC. A sampie of Ihe paving mix was obtained from fhe paver on sile(designated AC-1). Approximalely 140-tons of Class B Asphallic Concrclr.:was pface and compar,�ed over Ihe easlem half of the soulh parking lot loday. The lemperature tor the paving mix on arrival to the job site wa:; 270°F•285°F. CONFORMANC� OF THIS ITEM:To lhe best oi the inspector's knowledge, the Asphallic Concrete inspected was found in contormance wilh approved plans, specificalions, RFIs and/or engineers approval, MISCEI.I.ANEOUS AC7IVITI[;i, OBSERVAI'IONS ANDlOR COMM[NTS: Priqr lo lfie commencement o(paving, Jerry Rasmussen of Spee West Conslruction and myseli randomly checked the lhickness of lhe CSTC m3lerial in place across lhe proposcd parking IoL Belween 1I41h to 113rd of the parking lot fails to meet the required 4"minimum o(crushed aggregale. The areas lacking the rcquired 4"of CS7C matcrial varied in thicknPs,from 2" to 3,5"and are randomly spaced. Jerry of Spee West Construclion failed to mention tho random areas in lhe proposed parking lot lackinc� the required 4"IiH of CSTC during his phone conversation with the cngineer carlier in lhe day.
