ism <br /> EVERETT <br /> WASHINGTON <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 7491 <br /> A RESOLUTION Supporting the Efforts of the US-2 Coalition and Funding for a Capacity Study <br /> of US-2 <br /> WHEREAS, <br /> 1. WHEREAS, US Highway 2 (US-2) is an east-west United States federal highway spanning from <br /> Everett, WA in the west to St. Ignace, MI in the east; and <br /> 2. US-2 is one of two major east-west connectors for freight and statewide travel from Everett to <br /> Wenatchee, Spokane, and beyond; and <br /> 3. US 2 is a T-1 Freight Corridor carrying more than 10 million tons of freight per year. It is the <br /> primary freight corridor when 1-90 is closed due to weather conditions or accidents; and <br /> 4. US-2 runs through multiple cities and towns in the Sky Valley as a main thoroughfare; and <br /> 5. 18,000 vehicles per day travel on US 2 from Hwy 9 to Stevens Pass reaching volumes beyond its <br /> capacity during peak periods and even more on weekends and holidays; and <br /> 6. during peak capacity, local residents between Monroe and Index are unable to leave their <br /> homes due to the level of congestion; and <br /> NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND EVERETT CITY COUNCIL THAT: <br /> THAT, the City of Everett supports the goals of the US-2 Coalition to bring much needed attention and <br /> funding to the capacity and safety concerns on US Highway 2; and, <br /> THAT,The City of Everett supports the US-2 Coalition's proposal for a $1 million study to identify <br /> capacity and safety improvements to US-2 from the Port of Everett to Steven's Pass; and, <br /> THAT,The City of Everett supports the proposed goals of the US-2 Study to Identify improvements to: <br /> • Increase safety <br /> • Reduce congestion and improve efficiency of the highway system <br /> • Improve freight mobility and economic vitality <br /> • Protect and enhance our natural environment <br /> Z'44.4*1 <br /> ouncil Member Introducing Resolution <br /> PASSED AND APPROVED this 4 day of March, 2020. <br />
