EVERETT
N. WASHINGTON
City of Everett Human Needs Grant
January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020
Exhibit A
Program Summary
Organization&Program: Faith Lutheran Church: Hot Meal Coalition
Faith Lutheran Church of Everett is a dynamic force in its neighborhood, community, and the world due to its
people, programs and facilities. The church welcomes people of all backgrounds and ages and is youth friendly.
This results in a diverse, engaging congregation that people want to join and use their gifts of time and talents in
service locally as well as throughout the world. Faith Lutheran Church collaborates with organizations and
agencies near and far to provide funding, community events, education, comfort, worship services, social service
referrals, food and hot nutritious meals to the hungry, safe drinking water, and nonpolluting stoves.
Everett Hot Meal Coalition is a project of Faith Lutheran Chruch and consists of 10 hot meal providers who serve
approximately 1,400 free nutritious hot meals to all people each week in the City of Everett. Coalition meal
programs work together to share resources, food stocks, supplies, and to help people in need of food, social
services, support, and community. Our primary objective is to reduce hunger and we do this by providing free
nutritious hot meals to all people every day in the city of Everett. The majorty of Coalition meal programs are
large in scale and serve 80 to 150 meals per sitting. Two member programs which serve women and youth, are
smaller in scale but serve free meals daily(5 and 7 days per week). The Everett Hot Meal Coalition maintains a
centrally located warehouse in Everett to store food and supplies and hold monthly meetings. The Coalition's
warehouse is able to receive pallet sized food and supply purchases and donations and maintains 5 freezers. In
addition to meals,we provide a warm and safe place for people to gather and obtain information about shelters,
clothing, medical &addiction service programs, job assistance, hygiene supplies, shower services and other
social services. We provide a community to people in need.
The Everett Hot Meal Coalition program utilizes federal, city, and private grant funds to purchase and provide
food and supplies to Coalition meal programs. The Coalition actively conducts local clothing drives, participates
in concert fund raisers and welcomes donations of money, food and supplies.
Coalition meal programs report increasing numbers of participants at meal programs. From the August 2nd
2019 City of Everett Needs Assessment Executive Summary, "approximately 16.3%of Everett residents live in
poverty," and "Everett holds the highest count (12.6%)of homeless persons living in Snohomish County."
Everett Hot Meal Coalition represents 71%(10 of 14 known meal programs)of meal programs which provide
free meals to all people in Everett. Of the community of people served by the Everett Hot Meal Coalition
through our hot meal programs-we estimate that 20%of"clients/participants" are unduplicated or are new
participants to our meal programs.
7
