mi EVERETT <br /> WASHINGTON <br /> City of Everett Human Needs Grant <br /> January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020 <br /> Exhibit A <br /> Program Summary <br /> Organization&Program: Housing Hope: Homeless Teen and Young Family Program <br /> Program objectives: <br /> This program serves teen and young adult parents aged 16 to 24 and their children who are experiencing homelessness at <br /> program entry. Each year,Housing Hope provides housing and services to approximately 29 teen and young adult parent <br /> households, all of whom have incomes below 30%of the area median.Eligible families meet the criteria for homelessness as <br /> defined by HUD and heads of households must be pregnant or have children under the age of 18 in their custody. Single <br /> female parents with children under the age of five are the majority head of households served by this program.Most families <br /> served present multiple challenges to sustaining permanent housing, including histories of abuse or neglect,histories of <br /> domestic violence,chemical dependency,mental illness,CPS involvement,lack of education or employment skills,and <br /> reliance on public support. <br /> Housing Hope's Homeless Teen and Young Parent program provides affordable housing and comprehensive services to <br /> homeless teen parents ages 16 to 24 and their young children. Services include Family Support Services(formerly called case <br /> management), adult education and employment support,parent coaching and education, life skills training,child <br /> development services,and supported access to community services such as mental health and substance addiction treatment. <br /> This project will serve approximately 29 families in Everett(estimate of 75 individuals),all of whom are homeless at entry. <br /> Through strengths-based services,families gain skills related to parenting and independent living that will lead to permanent <br /> housing and self-sufficiency. <br /> The following needs have been identified and are addressed during each family's stay with Housing Hope: <br /> 1. Housing Needs <br /> •Assistance in maintaining or securing other permanent housing,which also creates an opportunity for reunification for <br /> parents who CPS involved. <br /> 2. Education Needs <br /> •Obtaining tutoring or homework assistance to help youth stay in school and complete graduation <br /> •High School Completion or GED attainment <br /> •Guided support through higher education or certification endeavors, including the college application process and funding <br /> college expenses. <br /> •Access to affordable and reliable transportation <br /> 3.Employment Needs <br /> •Increase earning potential and household income through job training,internships,apprenticeships,or paid employment. <br /> Other focus areas include resume building, interview skills,and other pre-employment education. <br /> •Access to affordable and reliable transportation,as well as assistance with buying work clothes and shoes. <br /> 4. Child Development <br /> •Increasing parenting knowledge and skills to ensure healthy child development through one-on-one parent coaching or <br /> parent education classes. <br /> •Develop a list of local resources that address a child's developmental needs and concerns. <br /> •Assistance navigating the school system and a child's Individualized Education Program(IEP)for those with particular <br /> needs. <br /> 5.Family Management <br /> •Increase skills and knowledge of financial literacy, including budgeting and understanding credit. <br /> •Increase skills and knowledge of housing expertise,including landlord-tenant law and homeownership. <br /> •Improve the family's health and wellness,including physical health,mental health, and providing nutritious meals. <br /> •Manage family life,including establishing routines,boundary setting, and communicating. <br /> 7 <br />
