Because the
selecGon of an appropriate drainage system will depend on fhe water quantlty, season, weather
conditions, conshucUon sequence, and contractors methods, final dectsions regarding drainage
systems are best made tn the fleld at the tlme of construction. Nonelhiess, we enBapate that
berms or ditcfies placed along the uphill side oF thc work areas will adequately intercepl suAace
water runotf.
learinu and rubbina: Once surface runofl is cantrdled, site preparatlon should Include dearing,
grubbing, and removal of ail vegeWtion, sod, topsal, any organic-rich soils from foundallon and flll
areas. Based on the observed soil conditions; we estimate the stripping depths needed to remove
vegetatfon and topsoil will be negligible, with possible locaiized deeper sMpping required for
removal of root balls.
Excavadons: Site excavat:ns ranging up to about 2(eet deep may be required to accommodate
shallow fooGngs. 6ased on or exploraUons. we ancipate that these excavations will encounter
medium dense gravelly sands. These so;! can be excavated with conventional earthworking
equipment
terin : Our exploradon dfA not encountered groundwater, however, i( groundwater is
encountered during site excavations, we antidpate that an intemal system cif ditches, sump holes,
and pumps wili be adequate to temporarily dewater the excavatfons.
7emorrur Slooes: All tempor•ry soil cuts assodated with site regrading should be adequately
sloped back to prevent sloughing and collapse. For the medium dense gravelly sands lhat will
likely be exposed in on-site cuts, we tentatively recommend a maximum cut slope Indfnatlon of
1H:1V. However, appropriate indinaUons will ultimately depend on the actual soil condidons
exposed in the cuts. It is the responsibility of the conUactr to ensure that tha excavatlon Is
properly sloped or braced fa worker protecction, in accordance with OSHA gufdelines.
Subarade Comactior: We recommend that subgrades for ttie equipment shelter foundatlon be
prepared by proof-rolling the exposed native subgrade to a flrm, unyielding state. Proof-rollig can
be done mosl eHectively when the sals are at or very near thefr optimum molsture content If the
specified wmpaction level cannot be achieved due to high soil mo(sture conditlons, the wet soil
should be overexcavated and replaced with sukable, propery compadad, imported backfill.
Frozen Subarades: If earthwork takes place during freezing conditions, we recommend that all
eosed subgrades be allowed to thaw and then be recompcted if necessary, prior to placing
subsequent If(ts oi slruchiral fill or foundation components.
S1W011DPRnn9 FqS`M1OOOs113731 NeWJ4.ltl EIt W[.rjp
SI/9 #: aIMf3 OAN Hl. tlpY: A1dIS:Z : 66-9I-8 :A9 JAC3S
