® EVERETT
WASHINGTON
City of Everett Human Needs Grant
January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020
Exhibit A
Program Summary
Organization&Program: Everett Recovery Café: Peer to Peer Recovery Support
Everett Recovery Cafe is a safe place for individuals to define and pursue healing and recovery together.
The Café provides a unique service in the community. While case managers may meet with their clients once a month, and
treatment groups meet once a week,we provide support, resources and a community of care along the entire continuum of a
person's need for recovery assistance. In crisis.newer to recovery,in long-term recovery,after a relapse.during a difficult
life change, throughout a physical health challenge,or mental health transition, the Cafe is there as a refuge of care,evidence-
based addiction support and love. We teach people ways to manage their mental and physical health, maintain sobriety.build
community, and help each individual reclaim life as a person worthy of giving and receiving love. Through our work,we
prevent that individual from another potentially life-ending crisis. saving taxpayer money in emergency intervention to
stabilize that person, and allowing mental health and addiction support professionals to focus on health maintenance and
addiction prevention.
Our program objectives:
To assist people in our community working to achieve an attainable and sustainable recovery path.To aid our community in
breaking the cycle of addiction. homelessness, isolation, and poverty through positive peer support.local resources, and self-
empowerment.
Program components and structure'
Them arc four different a\-enues of recovery support and education provided to our members:
•Recovery Circles—Small support groups led by a trained facilitator that educate members in the recovery process and help
develop skills for relapse prevention while also encouraging self accountability. It is a requirement that members attend a
weekly circle.this is intended to teach and model responsibility, build self esteem.and discourage isolation which can trigger
relapse and exacerbate mental health challenges.
• Classes for Recovery—These classes encourage healing through a connection of mind and body as well as encouraging
interaction in group or one on one activities. These include yoga.meditation.art.book studies, journaling, and music.
• Volunteer opportunities—Regaining a sense of self worth is an important aspect of recovery.Providing volunteer
opportunities to members gives them a chance to give back to their community. At the same time it helps them to develop
leadership and communication skills, and helps them learn to interact effectively and productively with their peers.
• 12 Step groups-In our new space we will have a dedicated room for a variety of 12 Step groups.and a range of other
recovery support groups.
The Café is open Tuesday through Saturday, 12-4 pm,with some activities and groups occurring before and after hours.
Anyone is free to be a guest for the day(24 hours drug and alcohol free). New Member Introductions are Fridays at 1pm.
first come,first served.
Service is provided by staff members who are trained in recovery coaching, who are educated in correcting the harsh
negative. self-images so often found in our commuity, and who have the advantage of first hand knowledge of the recovery
process.Trained volunteers are an essential part of our program.
7
