•
WIN
SUM INSIN
MIMS
MEM IIERM
placed, the architectural finish must be removed and the surface cleaned or otherwise prepared before
placing grout.
DCI Response:
9a.See updated calculations, pages S-46 and S-47 for anchor calculations per ACI 530-13.
9b.See updated calculations pages S-46 and S-47, reductions for anchor spacing have been performed.
9c.Calculations account for bi-directional shear, but the modeling and design of the connections are such
that there is no calculated tension in the connection to the face of the CMU parapet walls.
9d. For the connections to the parapet walls, the eccentricity is very minor(less than W)so the tension in
the anchors created is very small,on the order of 500 pounds so this tension is ignored for the 4-bolt anchor
group. The connection to the stair wall has been updated,a spacer plate has been added that is directly
bolted to the CMU wall. This new plate maintains proper bolt spacing and edge distances which greatly
improves this connection from its current condition. See updated detail 12/S3.1M and supplemental
calculations sheets S-75 and S-76.
Continuing with the previous comment, the following field conditions should be addressed:
a. Detail 11/S3.1 M:The anchors installed at the parapets should be adhesive threaded rods. Based on
observations, it is not clear if the anchors are adhesive or mechanical anchors. The installed condition
should be verified. See Photo 5165 for an example.
b. Detail 12/S3.1M: The detail and calculations do not indicate the minimal edge distance between the
connection and the wall edge. See Photos 5159 and 5160. In addition, the installed condition has
resulted in large spalls on the backside of the wall. Note that the plate washers are also
missing. Documentation, including calculations, should be submitted that address these conditions and
the reduced available capacities of the connection.
DCI Response:
10a.The anchors to the parapet wall are threaded rod with adhesive.See report by Mayes Testing,
attached.
10b. See response to comment 9d above. This connection has been modified.
Sincerely,
DCI Engineers
)4skl -D
Craig A. Stainer, P.E., S.E.
Associate
