Silver Lake Elementary School Subsurface Exploration, Geologic Hazard,
Building Additions, Service Drive, and Water Line Installation and Geotechnical Engineering Report
Everett, Washington Project and Site Conditions
I. PROJECT AND SITE CONDITIONS
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of our subsurface exploration, geologic hazard, and
geotechnical engineering study for the proposed improvements at the Silver Lake Elementary
School in Everett, Washington. Recommendations in this report are based on review of a
proposed site sketch by Hutteball & Oremus Architecture, dated August 3, 2006. We also
reviewed our report titled "Subsurface Exploration and Geotechnical Engineering Report,
Silver Lake Elementary School Pavement Improvements," dated January 22, 2003. The site is
the existing Silver Lake Elementary School campus located at 12815 Bothell-Everett Highway
in Everett, Washington, as shown on Figure 1. The approximate locations of the explorations
accomplished for this study are presented on the Site and Exploration Plan, Figure 2. Boring
logs from EB-1 through EB-4 from our January 2003 report have been included in this report
and on the site plan. The new explorations are located within the proposed improvement areas
primarily north and east of the existing school buildings. If the proposed development plans
should change, the conclusions and recommendations contained in this report should be
reviewed and modified, or verified, as necessary.
1.1 Purpose and Scope
The purpose of this study was to provide subsurface data to be utilized in the design and
development of the above-referenced project. Our study included a review of available
geologic and engineering literature, advancement of exploration borings, and performing
geologic studies to assess the type, thickness, distribution, and physical properties of the
subsurface sediments and ground water conditions. Engineering studies were also conducted
to determine suitable foundation types and bearing pressures for the new building additions,
retaining wall design earth pressures, utility backfill and pavement design recommendations,
and erosion control and drainage considerations. This report summarizes our current
fieldwork and offers development recommendations based on our present understanding of the
project.
1.2 Authorization
Verbal authorization to proceed with this study was granted by Mr. Hal Beumel of the Everett
Public School District No. 2 (Everett Public Schools). Our study was accomplished in general
accordance with our scope of work letter dated October 3, 2006. This report has been
prepared for the exclusive use of Everett Public Schools and their agents for specific
application to this project. Within the limitations of scope, schedule, and budget, our services
have been performed in accordance with generally accepted geotechnical engineering and
November 8, 2006 ASSOCIATED EARTH SCIENCES, INC.
SGB/rd-KE02599B2-Projeas1200205991KE%WP Page 1
