EVERETT <br /> WASHINGTON <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 7497 <br /> A RESOLUTION concerning federal economic relief legislation <br /> WHEREAS, <br /> A. On March 27, 2020,the United States Congress passed, and the President signed the Coronavirus <br /> Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES)Act. <br /> B. The purpose of the Act is to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic by providing economic relief to <br /> businesses and individuals and local and state governments in order to defray the costs of <br /> responding to the public health emergency. <br /> C. The City of Everett wishes to express its appreciation to Washington's congressional delegation, <br /> including Senator Murray,Senator Cantwell, and Representative Larsen,for their support of this <br /> legislation. <br /> D. In addition to the direct costs of responding to the COVI-19 pandemic, local governments have <br /> suffered significant loss of revenue during the pandemic. <br /> E. This loss of revenue is causing severe financial distress, affecting local government's ability to <br /> provide its citizens with essential government services. <br /> F. This loss of revenue and resulting economic distress is likely to last for many months, causing <br /> both short-term and long-term damage to government's ability to serve its citizens. <br /> G. Additional federal legislation is needed to provide economic assistance to local governments. <br /> NOW,THEREFORE,THE CITY COUNCIL AND MAYOR OF EVERETT RESOLVE: <br /> 1. The City Council and Mayor express their appreciation to Senators Murray and Cantwell and <br /> Representative Larsen for their support of economic relief legislation enacted to date. <br /> 2. The City requests that further economic relief legislation be enacted at the earliest possible <br /> time to provide necessary funds to local government to allow local governments to continue to <br /> provide essential public services. <br />
