The HMA was placed along Seaway Boulevard and on 75th Street SW
from stations 56+10 to 56+85.
The existing asphalt was ground down to the desired depth. The subgrade was compacted.
(See Report FD030 from 6/7/19.) Tac was placed on the existing asphalt prior to paving. On
Seaway Boulevard the existing asphalt was ground to the depth of 6". The HMA was placed in
a 4" base lift and a 2" wearing lift. On 75th Street SW, the existing asphalt was ground to the
depth of 4". The HMA was placed in a 3" base lift and a 1" wearing lift. The HMA was
compacted with a HAMM double drum oscillating roller, CAT CB24B double drum vibrating
roller and a plate compactor. All tests met compaction requirements. AR4000 sealant was
placed where the new HMA met the existing asphalt.
GeoTest noted that in several areas, the new HMA grade was above the existing asphalt.
GeoTest used a rice value provided by Granite, the HMA supplier for comparison of density
test results.
