ria
11•111111111 M
INN
EMI
i. Revised calculations for the gravity framing should be submitted for review
as needed based on comments above for the gravity loading. Framing shall
[ be designed for concentrated gravity loads where they occur.
ii. If openings larger than 12"(i.e.,joist spacing minus the width of the joist
top chords)are required, supplemental framing and details for the openings
shall be provided.
iii. Additional calculations shall be provided for continuous joists supporting
transfer loads from adjacent discontinuous joists at openings.
iv. Calculations substantiating the design of wall framing supporting
concentrated loading from above shall be submitted for review.
DCI Response:As we discussed on the phone and the loading given in our calculations, the 125 PSF
is more than adequate for the intended use of the TAT structure. For any HEPA filters placed the
contact load is approximately 40 PSF which is much less than the design load of 125 PSF.
Additionally, openings in the floor have been coordinated with the mechanical engineer such that
there aren't any duct penetrations that will not fit between the joists spaced at 16"o.c.As such,
all joists are continuous for the full span. Lastly, the HEPA filters will sit on sleepers as noted on
plan,S2.1 and detail 7/S4.1.See supplemental calculations sheet S-19 for lateral loading on the
HEPA filters.
10.This comment has not been completely addressed:
a. Sheet S2.1 now includes a W8x18 hoist beam. The beam is shown at the mezzanine floor level,
not the roof level. Detail 6/S4.0 does not show the beam and the required connection to the
columns. The beam elevation should be clarified. A connection detail should be provided.
b.Section 4/S3.0 on Sheet S2.0 shows a section through the elevator pit. The section shows an "HSS
column per plan". However, the HSS elevator columns do not occur at the locations show in the
section. The required connection for the columns to the foundation should be specified.
DCI Response:The plan now indicates that the bottom of the hoist beam is located at elevation
25'-5". Detail 6/S4.0 has been updated to show the connection of the hoist beam to the elevator
columns. The location of the section cut for detail 4/S3.0 has been updated on the foundation
plan to correctly show the location of the column. The column connection to the embed plate is
shown in detail 4/S3.0.
Structural Comments
7. This comment does not appear to be addressed. Page 5 of the structural calculations include
revisions. However, the revisions do not address the comment. See the following:
a. The original comment noted that the diaphragm load must transfer to shear walls that are shorter
in length than the diaphragm. The wall on Grid F.6 is only 20 feet long. The calculations still appear
based on the full diaphragm depth. Note that the diaphragm shear load appears to be at least 600
plf for the 20'wall length.
b.The general diaphragm design is unclear. The original calculation states that the diaphragm is
blocked, though the drawing do not appear to indicate this. In addition, the calculation considers a
