Hi Nadia,
Thank you for the information. It appears that parapet will provide enough screening so that this rooftop equipment
will be adequately screened from the street.
CELEBRATING Steve Ingalsbe
125 Land Use Manager I Community, Planning and Economic Development
YEA R'S 425.257.7135 I 2930 Wetmore Avenue,Suite 8A, Everett,WA 98201
A story worth telling everettwa.gov/planning I Facebook I Twitter
Note:Emails and attachments sent to and from the City of Everett are public records and may be subject to disclosure pursuant to the Public
Records Act.
From: Nadia Azarova <nadia@craftarchitects.com>
Sent:Tuesday, February 19, 2019 5:55 PM
To:Steve Ingalsbe<Singalsbe@everettwa.gov>
Cc: Ben Goodrich<bgoodrich@terrapower.com>; Bassem EI-Dasher<beldasher@terrapower.com>; Andy Fortino
<andyf@pattisongc.com>; Chris Lermusik<clermusik@umci.com>
Subject: Project#61808-012 TerraPower roof top equipment
Steve,
As requested, please find attached cut sheets for the rooftop equipment with numbers identifying them on the included
roof plan for clarity. As you can see, all the equipment has grayish color and non-reflective finish that helps it blend with
the color of wall panels, that is similar in hue and saturation.
To the question of roof color that has been touched in our phone conversation-it is white, as on the neighboring
buildings, but due to the location on site, the roof of this building (3315 Seaway Blvd) is not visible from pedestrian/
vehicular level from any point along the roads(Seaway and 36th Ave) or from property lines and adjacent properties at a
reasonable distance. Therefore, it deems appropriate to have the equipment color close to wall finish color and not the
roof.
All equipment is factory finished light gray color, except for stainless steel vent hoods that could receive durable exterior
coating of color similar to building walls, if required. As we spoke, the biggest piece of equipment is 5'3" high DOAS unit
on 8" min. curb, which shown on thesightlines diagram along with 10'stacks of 12" to 18" dia. and located on various
spots on the roof.
Interior improvements for building B is a work in progress. Further experimental setup in other building areas may
eventually require more rooftop equipment of the similar nature. Having multiple screen enclosures will further reduce
the roof carrying capacity, which is already close to its limits, and eventually may hinder the research areas, requiring
additional HVAC equipment.
In addition to cut sheets, please find attached roof plan showing equipment submitted for different phases of
TerraPower project, exterior photos showing building'scolor palette as compared to the equipment color and amended
sightline sketch.
As you noted, the HVAC equipment on adjacent building visually integrates w/backgrounds and thus does not need
screening. With this precedent, and per our phone conversation,we believe that building 3315 roof equipment, which is
only partially visible (please refer to the enclosed sightlines diagram), as compared to the adjacent building, will blend
with the surroundings/building enclosure color allowing it not to be an accidental focal point within this industrial
environment.
3`
