Drew Martin
From: Drew Martin
Sent: Wednesday, December 12, 2018 10:40 AM
To: 'Nadia Azarova'
Subject: RE: Plan Check Number: B1810-016, First Review
Nadia,
Interesting question. Unfortunately, I do not see an obvious answer that would allow that. If you can provide a
justification based on the code,WAC,or Everett Municipal Code that would, we could review this question
further. Otherwise, the IBC criteria will govern.
,— CELEBRATING125 Drew Martin, P.E.,S.E.
Associate Engineer—Commercial Plans Examiner 1 Permit Services
YEARS 425.257.8813 1 3200 Cedar Street, 2nd Floor, Everett,WA 98201
A story worth telling everettwa.gov/permits 1 Facebook 1 Twitter
Note:Emails and attachments sent to and from the City of Everett are public records and may be subject to disclosure pursuant to the Public
Records Act.
From: Nadia Azarova<nadia@craftarchitects.com>
Sent:Tuesday, December 11, 2018 3:15 PM
To: Drew Martin<dmartin@everettwa.gov>
Subject: RE: Plan Check Number: B1810-016, First Review
Thank you Drew. Sprinklers are by deferred submittal, which is noted on the arch title sheet. We will put an additional
note on the drawings for sprinklers on each level.
Could you please also clarify, if the stair at the platform can be an industrial stair per OSHA, not IBC, since this is not a
public exit stair and that it can be less than 36" ( 22" min. per OSHA) in width?
Thank you for your help.
From: Drew Martin [mailto:dmartinPeverettwa.gov]
Sent:Tuesday, December 11, 2018 12:09 PM
To: Nadia Azarova<nadia@craftarchitects.com>
Subject:RE: Plan Check Number: B1810-016, First Review
In general, the building is required to have sprinklers. I'm not familiar with the ESFR system, but it appears it is a specific
system-intended-to-meet the-requirement of-providing-sprinklers in the-building; it further appears to be an-alternate-to-
providing sprinklers throughout the storage racks. The issues for high-pile storage are separate from the requirements
for the platform. The IBC section referenced in the comment requires all platform levels to have sprinklers. This is not
negated by use of a system that is addressing issues specific to the high-pile storage.
 CELEBRATING Drew Martin, P.E.,S.E.
' Associate Engineer—Commercial Plans Examiner 1 Permit Services
YEARS 425.257.8813 1 3200 Cedar Street, 2nd Floor, Everett,WA 98201
A story worth telling everettwa.gov/permits 1 Facebo•• witter
