GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING STUDY
PROPOSED COSTCO RETAIL GASOLINE FACILITY
10200 — 19TH AVENUE SOUTHEAST
EVERETT, WASHINGTON
E-8556
INTRODUCTION
General
This report presents the results of the Geotechnical Engineering Study completed by Earth
Consultants, Inc. (ECI) for the proposed Costco Retail Gasoline Facility, 10200-19th Avenue
Southeast, Everett, Washington. The purpose of this study was to explore the subsurface
conditions at the site, and based on the conditions encountered, develop geotechnical
recommendations for the proposed site development. The general location of the site is
shown on the Vicinity Map, Plate 1 .
Project Description
A schematic representation of the facility at the time of our study, and our exploratory
locations are approximately as shown on the Boring Location Plan, Plate 2. We understand
=he proposed fueling facility will be located on the northeast corner of the property, in the
existing asphalt paved parking lot. The existing pavement areas around the development will
remain; however, there will be some modifications to the landscaping areas and vehicle access
routes.
Construction of a freestanding fueling canopy, six fueling stations, and installation of three
20,000-gallon underground storage tanks are planned as part of the development. Concrete
pavements are also planned as part of the facility. Construction of a 6 foot by 12 foot
controller enclosure is planned to the northeast of the fueling canopy. We understand
excavation depths for the proposed underground storage tanks will be approximately twenty
(20) to twenty-five (25) feet.
A typical column dead load reaction is 4 kips and a typical live load reaction is 16 kips.
Design overturning moments on the canopy will be based on recommended wind and seismic
loading for the area, and should be addressed by the structural engineer. We estimate footing
loads for the proposed controller enclosure will be less than 1 kip per lineal foot.
If any of the above design criteria are incorrect or change, we should be consulted to review
the recommendations contained in this report. In any case, ECI should be retained to perform
a general review of the final design.
Earth Consultants, Inc.
