The window will be 30"wide, and the edge of the rough opening will be
located 18" from the north-east corner, leaving a 4ft remaining shear wall. The wall in question is both a
shear and bearing wall.
The header shall be at minimum a double 2x6 Hem-Fir#2. It's assumed that the HDU5 hold downs per the
original plans were installed per plans. Analyzing the remaining 4ft segment of wall as a stand-alone
segmented wall shows that the SW4 is still adequate (no nailing or sill anchor retrofit are required).
However, a new hold down will be required at the south rough opening double king stud of the new
header. The hold down assembly shall be a double HDU5 with an aligned MST60 strap per original details
1/S5 and 2/S5. The south HDU5 is still adequate, and requires not additional retrofit.
T
If there are any questions regarding this, or if we may be of further assistance, please contact this office.
Sincerely,
Equilibria St ctural Engineering, Inc PS 05/20/2017
J on dquist, P.E., S.E.
1 /1
gineer p .od
Pp .
