Background: Basic Context <br /> 0 <br /> • On August 29, 2013, and September 6, 2013, significant <br /> storm events occurred in the City, causing many sewer <br /> back-ups and overflows in the City's combined sewer <br /> system. <br /> • Paid claims from these storm events have totaled more than <br /> S3.2 million for damage. <br /> • On August 20, 2014, the City Council adopted a new sewer <br /> claims ordinance and established a backwater valve <br /> program. <br /> • The purpose of this briefing is to reacquaint people with <br /> how the sewer claims ordinance works and to give a status <br /> report on the backwater valve program. <br />
