The roofing is AEP 22 Span Seam standing seam metal roofing. The majority of the roof
will be covered with solar panels. The panels will be attached to XRIO rails that are anchored to the
standing seam roofing with S-5!1;clamps spaced 48"on center.
The building has been designed for an additional 5 psf included in the vertical and lateral calcula-
tions so the vertical and lateral framing systems are adequate for the solar panels loads. I calculated the
maximum vertical load that the XRIO rails will need to carry and found that the rails are within accepta
ble stress limits with these loads. I also calculated wind uplift forces for the anchors and found that
the anchors are adequate for the wind uplift forces in all areas of the roof. I also checked to see that the
attachment of the roofing panels to the plywood deck we adequate to resist the uplift loads due to the
wind forces on the panels. I found that the attachment of the roof panels to the plywood sheathing was
adequate to resist the wind uplift forces from the solar panels.
I also conducted a review of the overall wind and seismic loading for the building itself and found
that the wind load for the structure will not be increased by the addition or the solar panels and that the
increase in the seismic loading was accounted for in the original design ()law building .
Based upon my understanding of the system and the calculations I have performed. it is my opin-
ion that the solar system installed as outlined above and as shown in your submittal to me is in general
conformance to the 2015 IBC and will adequately resist vertical loading due to dead loads and snow loads
and lateral loading due to wind and seismic forces.
Please let me know it'you have any questions or need anything further. 1 appreciate this opportun
ity to provide you with these engineering services.
, 2
ar 0 ,i(s
Sincerely,
wit.
Clary E.
