• Mr. Audie Wallace
McKinstry Co., LLC
Plan Check Number: X1907-001, First Building Review
July 11, 2019
Architectural
1. Sheet M4.24 shows a ceiling diffuser penetrating the corridor ceiling at Grid 3.9/2.5. The
corridor walls are specified as smoke partitions per Sheet LS2.20 of the construction drawings
under Permit No. B1904-036. The ceiling appears to provide continuity for the smoke partition.
The duct opening shall be provided with a smoke damper. It is noted that the duct may have a
damper located upstream in the trunk line, but this is not sufficient to prevent the passage of
smoke between patient rooms and corridor at the identified location. See IBC Sections 710.8
and 717.3.2.2. [Response worn Stantec 8/5/2019: A new smoke damper will be installed in the
• auct between the patient stations and the corridor (at Gridline "K").]
2. Sheet M4.24 shows an existing ceiling diffuser penetrating the corridor ceiling at Grid J.8/3.2
that does not include a smoke damper. The corridor walls are specified as smoke partitions per
Sheet LS2.20 of the construction drawings under Permit No. B1904-036. The ceiling appears to
provide continuity for the smoke partition. The duct opening should be provided with a smoke
damper. Other existing duct openings may exist that similarly should be provided with smoke
dampers. It is noted that the ducts may have a dampers located upstream in the trunk lines,
but these are not sufficient to prevent the passage of smoke between patient rooms and
corridors. See IBC Sections 710.8 and 717.3.2.2. [Response from Stantec 8/5/2019: A r{
smoke damper will be installed in the 12" round duct between the patient stations awT
corridor (at aridli:- . "
3. Sheet M4.24 shows an 8"round duct penetrating the east wall for the Clean/Linen Room at Grid
3.3/3.5. The wall is specified as 1-hour fire barrier per Sheet LS2.20 of the construction
drawings under Permit No. B1904-036. Per the rate wall schedule on Sheet LS2.20, the ducts
shall include fire dampers at the wall penetration points. See IBC Section 717.5.2. .sponse
Stantec 8/5/2019: Fire damper will be installed]
4. Sheet M4.25 shows four 22x20 ducts penetrating a wall at Grids 3.1/7.7 and 3.1/8.8. The wall
is specified as 1-hour fire barrier per Sheet LS2.20 of the construction drawings under Permit
No. B1904-036. Per the rate wall schedule on Sheet LS2.20, the ducts shall include fire
dampers at the wall penetration points. See IBC Section 717.5.2. (Response from star::
8/5/2019: The fire dampers are not required as fire/smoke dampers are installed at the top or
the shalt on level 4. [his matches the installation at all existing ORs.] I ndressedbyMeKS
Structural tructuralEngineer
1. The project includes four air terminal units per Sheet M0.02. It is presumed that the units
weight approximately 50 lbs each and will require individual gravity suspension and seismic
bracing. See IBC Sections 107.2.1, 1604.1, and 1613.1, and ASCE 7-10 Section 14.1.4 Item 6c.
The following comment shall be addressed:
a. Details for the support of the units shall be included in the construction drawings.
b. Calculations for the support design shall be submitted for review. The seismic bracing shall
comply with the requirements of IBC Section 13.6.
n 3200 Cedar Street ® 425.257.8810 O everetteps@everettwa.gov
\'-1 Everett,WA 98201 425.257.8857 fax everettwa.gov/permits
Page 2 of/5
