Mr. Audie Wallace
McKinstry Co., LLC
Plan Check Number: X1907-001, Second Building Review
August 29, 2019
Architectural
1. This comment has not been completely addressed. The original comment stated that Sheet
M4.24 shows a ceiling diffuser penetrating the corridor ceiling at Grid 19/2.5, and that a smoke
damper shall be provided. Sheet M4.24 was revised to provide a damper at Grid K/3.8.
However, the damper only prevents smoke from infiltrating the rooms served by this branch of
the duct and is not sufficient to prevent smoke from traveling through the remainder of the
system. The design shall be revised to relocate the damper or provide additional dampers to
prevent smoke from entering the system. The required rating for the dampers shall be
specified per IBC Section 717.3.2.2. See IBC Sections 710.8 and 717.3.2.2.
2. This comment has not been completely addressed. The original comment stated that Sheet
M4.24 shows a ceiling diffuser penetrating the corridor ceiling at Grid J.8/3.2, and that a smoke
damper shall be provided.
3. This comment has not been completely addressed. The original comment stated that the 8"
duct at Grid J.3/3.5 on Sheet M4.24 penetrates a 1-hour fire barrier shall include a fire damper.
A fire damper has been specified in response. The required rating for the damper shall be
specified per IBC Table 717.3.2.1. See IBC Section 717.5.2.
4. No additional comment.
Additional Comments:
5. The drawing set appears to be revised per the Drawing Index on Sheet M0.01. In addition, the
drawings listed in the Index do not match the sheets included in the set. The Index shall be
revised. Note that Sheet M0.01 was only included in one of the two replacement sets
resubmitted. Two complete sets shall be provided. See IBC Section 107.2.1.
6. The project includes numerous piping that penetrate the walls and wall membranes, and the
horizontal assemblies. The architectural drawings under Permit No. B1904-036 do not include
details for sealing the penetrations in the fire and smoke barriers. Details shall be included in
the mechanical drawing set to seal the penetrations. The details shall include rated assemblies
and shall provide the test listing.
