In August they bad <br /> community meetings at Emerson School at which time the majority of people <br /> ' in attendance recommended closing Dorn. The week following TAC reviewed <br /> and recommended that a one month trial closure be made to evaluate clo- <br />',5 sure impact. He recommended concurrence by council. <br /> Richard McNeely and Roy Johnston spoke against the closure. <br /> Councilman Langus slso spoke against the closure and could see no reason <br /> for it. Councilman Aldcroft felt the 30-day trial period was in order <br /> and obvioesly there was a safety problem and this is why the request was <br /> made. <br /> Joe Banky of 203 Dorn Avenue spoke in favor of closing the street. He <br /> said the road was narrow,part Of it was on Private ProPertY and that <br /> 50 1051 many accidents in the area. <br /> Moved by Councilman Aldcroft,seconded by Councilman Pope to adopt Reso- <br /> lution No.1520 with b..Cameron working with the citizens in regard to <br /> the closing barrier location. <br /> A resolution to temporarily restrict all vehicular traffic from traveling <br /> through on Dorn Avenue by installing a barricade and appropriate signing <br /> t" <br /> Where.,the City has received a petition to improve the safety of traffic <br /> and residents along Dorn Avenue and 92nd Street;and <br /> Whereas,a majority of citizens attending an evening meeting at Emerson <br /> School on August 8,1978 voted in favor of temporarily closing Dorn Avenue <br /> west of 3rd Avenue to through traffic to evaluate the effects of a closure <br /> in terms of safety and traffic movement efficiency;and <br /> Whereas,the Transportation Advisory Committee has reviewed en.study re- <br /> sults showing traffic volumes increasing from 800 to 1400,the read not <br /> being on City right-of-way,the close garage;and <br /> Whereas,the Transportation Advisory Committee recommends that a tempor- <br /> ary closure would be the fastest way to immediately reduce the travel <br /> hazard on Dorn;and <br /> :. ;:11.7.r means is available to improve safety along Dorn Avenue <br /> bt=:therefore,be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Everett <br /> 1 <br />
