December 15,1982 <br /> PUBLIC HEARING-ICB S211-4981 <br /> 4rj44W,, FIN.READING: <br /> AN ORDINANCE amending Ordinance No.773-61 which <br /> , provides for the regulation of for-hire vehicles <br /> in the City of Everett. <br /> Chuck Griffis,owner of Yellow Cab Company,objected to Section 8 which <br /> , raised the amount of insuramce that each company must have on its <br /> vehicles. He said it would increase the insurence rates he would have <br /> 444'' to pay extremely. <br /> Councilman Lenges asked if this was common to all businesses doing <br /> business in the City and Bruce Jones,City Attorney,said e,contractor <br /> that had a business in the City was required to have this type of <br /> insurance. <br /> Councilman Alder°.asked Mx.Griffis if he Imd contracts with other <br /> 7.°,1TN!!:t ;!2eNtri:nrg <br /> requires only$100,000,not the$500,000 amount required MY the CitY4 <br /> Anne Frederick,Risk Maeager,said the amount set by the State was the <br /> minimum amount of insurance these taxicab companies could have. <br /> Councilman Langus felt the Risk Manager was hired by the City to <br /> recommend and provide the expertise for the Council and they should tWce <br /> her recommendation. <br /> Moved by Councilman Gipson,seconded by Councilman Michelson,to <br /> 14 continue the public hearing. <br />• ' Roll was called with all Councilmen voting no,e46cept Councilmen Gipson, <br /> Michelson and Pope,who voted yes. <br /> Motion Lost <br /> Bill Adams,who said he had no interest in the companies,spoke against <br /> the insurance amount also. Be felt 5300,000 would be sufficient and <br /> possibly the taxicab companies would agree to that.
