He I <br /> • felt the City wets doing an excellent job of compliance with <br /> handicaPPed regulations required to receive revenue sharing funds. <br /> • Mayor Moore commented that the City has been working with the <br />• <br />• <br /> deaf community to help them establish an office at Paine Field. <br /> Councilman Pope asked if the review on discretionary tax increases <br /> could be speeded up somewhat and requested that the ganhling tax <br /> ordinance be put on the agenda in several weeks. This would give <br /> ample time to notify interested parties. President Stephenson <br /> asked Budget Committee Chairman Overstreet to take this into <br /> consideration. <br /> Mayor Moore s....meeting had beeli held with representatives of the <br /> Chamber of Commerce who had taken a look at the City's finances and <br /> avenues of revenues. They felt the utility taxes should be <br /> equalized by bringing up the lower ones and also did not object to <br /> • raising the gambling tax to take care of emergencies. <br /> • <br /> COuncilman Morrow said he appreciated the opportunitY as.new <br /> councilman to attend the NI.and reported on his attendance at the <br /> Women in Municipal Government seminar. <br /> Councilman Langus spoke of the efficiency of the City's paramedics <br /> and fast response time in contrast to the Dallas tragedies. <br /> PRESIDENT'S COMMENTS <br /> President Stephenson suggested Council members call or write <br /> congressional delegates in regard to 110 4103 which takes regulation <br /> of Cablevision out of the-hands of local government to set rates. <br /> SCOTT PAPER WATER CONTRACT AMENDMENT <br /> • <br /> I Bruce Jones,City Attorney,reported he had met and negotiated with I <br /> Scott Paper Company an amendment to their water contract concernizg I <br /> industrial water charge for 1984-SS and asked for Council approval. <br /> Moved by Councilman Michelson,seconded by Councilman Langus,to <br /> • authorize the Mayor to sign a contract amendment with Scott Paper <br /> Company for 1984-1985 industrial water charges. . <br /> Roll was called with all Councilmen voting yes,except Councilman <br /> Gipson,who was excused. <br /> Motion Carwied <br /> FINANCE DIRECTOR'S COMMENTS .• <br /> Bill Cushman,Budget end Finance Director,commented on the meeting <br /> with the Chamber on discretionary taxes. He Said they were an <br /> excellent group and seemed extremely supportive. They did not give <br /> any specific direction to the City but did indicate that a look <br /> should be taken at the gambling tax,admissiOn tax at godr ce.rFes <br /> and Cablevision fees. <br /> • <br /> , . , <br />
