"" <br /> Bill saunders of 502 Wetmore said the Directors of the Chamber of <br /> commerce.had met and unamiously voted that no election was needed <br /> regarding the Navy issue,but if an election was held it shodld be <br /> Nov.Prh and it shoUld be county-wide. <br /> Ile said as a citizen he felt it was an honor to have the Navy pick <br /> - the City of Everett because obviously the President and the Dept.of <br /> • <br /> t Defense felt there was a need for additional defense in the puget <br /> sound area and he thoUght the citizens should support their <br /> country. se questioned if the vote in Novekber,-and he hoped if <br /> there was an election it would be on November 6th, if the vote was <br /> , overwhelmingly no,did that mean the City v/ould refuse to cooperate <br /> with the Navy if they still decided to make Everett their home port. <br /> President Stephenson said he thought the Council was probably split <br /> • on-that issue but he felt it was an admvisory vote aMe whether the <br /> majority of the vote is yes or no, it does not take away from the <br /> • Council's duties to mitigate impact. If the City goes through that <br /> process with the Navy,then the City can mitigate the impacts to the <br /> betterment of the community and if fiercere things that are of <br /> serious concern to the health of the community then the council <br /> • <br /> . needs to stand up and say no. He said he felt that this was an .1 <br /> advisory vote only and the majority of the Council had that in mind <br /> when they adopted this ordinance.
