. •
190
May 22,1985
PRESIDENT'S COIMENTS . •
president stephanson said he had received a letter from the Downtown
Everett Association notifying the city they plan to terminate their
management contract for Everpark Garage ax of Jane 30,1885.
He also asked that the following letter received from Robert
Bandies,Environmental Coordinator for the City of Everett be made
part of the record in connection with the comments made by Michael
Grubb at the last council meeting:
The purpose of this letter is to correct misinformation communicated
to the City Council at its May 15 meeting by Kr.Michael Grubb. Mr.
• Grubb erroneously-stated that the City of Everett did not have a
representative in attendance at the Recycling and Waste-to-EnergY
Workshop beld•at the Everett Pacific Hotel on Priday, April 26 and
Saturday,April AI.
a representative of the City's Planning Deparrnent attended the
entire conference. Ms.Cunningham regiatered for the conference and
wore a name tag indicating she represented the city during the
entire twa day conference. Additionally, the city has extensive
;fetes totalling oVer 35 pagee cOntaining the important information
communicated at the conference, and a five volume tape recording of
the entire conference.
Finally,I would like to note that, so far as I can determine,Mr.
Grubb he,attempted to verify his information with the city prior
to making erroneous public statements about the mity'a failure to
attend this conference.
mere importantly, I mould like to correct Oh, implied accusation
that the city is not concerned about these issues:end is not making
an effort to inform itself regarding these issues,an accUsation I
believe Mr.Grubb is making with hie comments. Indeed, the city's
actions demonstrate quite the oppOrsite. The city le keenly
interested in all of the issues related to waste-to-energy and ls
making a concerted effort to inform itself as fully de possible
regarding these isoues. We have compiled a voluminous library of
information on Chi.eubject and have read a significant amount of
the material assembled. Additionally, we are following the most
• current air quality issues very carefully and have attended special
meetings of the Puget Sound Air Pollution Control Board regarding
waste-to-energy facilities.
;.,17FLVkicsitng=11.0L:=ots the inaccurate statements made at
President Stephenson then said there was no purpose in meeting with
v the railroad people regarding the bridges etc. as there was no'
consensous Of Opinion between the city people as lox denim., an
the ordinance would be back for final reading on June 5th.
Kr. Jones, City Attorney, sUggeeted a wo[kOhop on may lOth to
discuss the various issues internally prior to the 5th when the
ordinance comes back on the agenda. In answer to a question frOM
Councilman Morrow, he said this would be a public meeting so
citizens could he in attendance.
•
. .
•
•
