Upon roll call it was found that <br /> all councilmen were in attendance except Councilman Pope who was <br /> . excused. Mayor Moore was also excused.. <br /> Minutes of the meeting held May 7,1986 were approved as Printed. a. <br /> MAYOR'S COMMENTS 1, <br /> President Mimeo,on behalf of the Mayor,Proclaimed Mal, 1R8d as <br /> 'Norwegien Heritage Day'and the week of May 18 through May 24 as <br /> 'Everett Tourism Week.' 1' <br /> liVIWT AWARD <br /> ; <br /> i11 f <br /> Craig Thompson, representing the American Water Works Association, 1 <br /> presented an award to the City of Everett for 50 years of service <br /> and support to the Aesociation. if:,'; <br /> Pastor Sundby of the Bethany Home, presented a video show on the <br /> activities in Bethany Home in honor of'National Nursing Home Week.' <br /> HOTEL/HOTED POND REQUEST <br /> Councilman Stephenson said last week the budget committee had heard <br /> a proposal from Pete Kinch associated with tourism which was then ' , <br /> brought before the council, at which time it was tabled fOr a ire. <br /> to take that proposal back through the Everett Chamber of Commerce <br /> for their concurrence. 1', I <br /> 1 14 <br /> The motion to table said that because the city has a history and 1,-1q <br /> thinks it is propet to deal with the Chamber of Commerce with the FN, <br /> city's contract to promote tourism, that anY activitY Oe tourism <br /> Should happen through that group. He then asked for an update as to ' <br /> what had happened during the week. 41' <br /> Pete Kinch of 1818 Holbrook Bald he had met with the Chamber and <br /> they discussed how this could work and make a useful addition to <br /> their tourism program. He said the council had a letter in ftont of <br /> them from the Chamber President stating they are willing to work ,if 1 <br /> with him on this project. <br /> Councilman Overstreet asked Mt. Kinch if he could tecall when the <br /> last slide presentation had been made of the city or county le terms <br /> of attracting business e[c.and Mr.!Cinch replied in regards to the , <br /> Everett Chamber, it was in 1978. There was also one made in 1976 <br /> for E.D.C.and he thought there was another one made for them about 1 1.f <br /> four years ago,geared to the whole county. <br /> Councilman Stephenson asked if the contract on tourism with the <br /> Chamber would have to be revised.
