339
August 24,1988
PUBLIC HEARING-1989 BUDGET
Councilmember Dale Pope, Chairman of the Finance and Budget
Committee opened the public hearing and stated today's hearing was
to review the preliminary expenditures recognized to date and to
offer the oPPortOnity for any other Proposals to be added to the
1989 Budget. He explained that preliminary figures indicate that
the 1989 budget is out of balance by approximately$/,000,000 and it
may be necessary for Administration and Council to prioritize
programs for 1989.
Bill C.mhman, Finance Director, reviewed the seven part preliminary
budget which includes several new positions including six new
police, a finance position, and another code enforcement officer.
He stated $15,000 should be added to the Senior Center Basic
Operating Expenses to cover additional hours of service.
Councilmember Gipson asked that$100,000 be included to begin a fund
for City Hall construction. He stated in his opinion it was time to
begin reserving some funds each year to provide for additional City
offices on the City Hall complex property. This construction would
provide space for those offices now displaced from City Hall into
leased space in the downtown area.
Chairman Pope announced the Mayor will deliver the 1989 Budget
message on October 19, 1988 and the next public hearing on the
budget will be held on October 26,1988.
•
Upon motion the meeting adjourned at 11.25 a.m.
City Clerk
'55,1 ADd alsOraved as printed.
EMI
