162 April 26,1989 <br /> Dan Rome, Exalted Ruler of the Everett Elks, reviewed the programs <br /> that the Elks have supported in theCity. <br /> Jeff Weimer, of 3006 Phaview, Trustee of Everett Elks read <br /> statement <br /> Pram Richard Pollack, Chairman Trustees of Everett <br /> Elks, c <br /> requeting that the City r nsider the cion action <br /> and redesign the Library o move It t another locat ion. <br /> Weimer commented that the Elks wouldmount <br /> effective <br /> political to .the citizens of Everettkill the <br /> Condemnation campaign <br /> io jeopardize the political future of the Mayor and <br /> the Councilmembers if they did not publicly declare their opposition <br /> ; to this issue. <br /> Floyd Turner, of 0732 122nd N Marysville, that the <br /> reduction Of land holdings will NE, <br /> the effectiveness of the <br /> rental o the property. This action is crippling the Elks property <br /> and he asked Council to withhold authorization of the Condemnation. <br /> Jim Ennis,603 33rd 5 reviewed[ contributions the Elks has <br /> made tothe City and the hardships that thecondemnation will cause <br /> he Elks. <br /> Mayor Moore reviewed the process and the downtown planning studies <br /> since 1981 which have shown that the natural place for civic <br /> expansion is in the downtown area and in the Library block. <br /> Councilmember Diamond said it is his intention to vote an what is <br /> best for the entire City and not be influenced by threats. <br /> M1 President Niveo ented that the City is not Interested in <br /> destroying t Elksand want it to remain a viable part of the <br /> City. The Council does have an obligation to the community at large <br /> to follow their direction and to provide prudent stewardship of the <br /> Y, public funds. <br /> Allan May, of 5216 South 3rd, commented that the Council needs to <br /> consider the total 60,000 Citizens they represent and not be <br /> influenced by implied threats. <br /> • Moved by Councilmember Gipson, seconded by C uncllmember Overstreet <br /> e <br /> that this is declared to be the third and final reading of Council <br /> Bill 09 and the City Clerk is directed to call the roll for the <br /> final disposition of the ordinance. <br /> AYES: angbs, Niva, Diamond, Gipson, Marrow, Pape, <br /> erstreet <br /> NAYS: None <br /> Ordinance No.1381-89 adopted. <br />
