A Special Olympics race end Celebrity race will also be <br /> held. <br /> COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> After looking at some statistics from 911 Enhance, Councilman <br /> Anderson requested that the Budget Committee and Public Safety <br /> Committee research and to see if the City is short police <br /> fficers and come up with a constructive solution. <br /> Councilman Moser indicated that the Rapid Transit Board would <br /> be making decisions regarding the light rail issue and asked <br /> councilmeobers for their input. <br /> Councilman Pope asked if a new Solid Waste Director had been <br /> appointed. Jerry Vrooman replied that Bill Diefenbrock has <br /> been appointed. This is not a new position. <br /> PRESIDENT'S COMMENTS (I) <br /> President Gipson spoke about the turmoil around the world <br /> regarding the riots in Los Angeles. He stated that <br /> resposibility as an elected official is to look at your own <br /> community. The challenge is to look at and accomodate the <br /> community. He felt citizens were showing concern and that as <br /> Policy makers policy needed to be made. He gave en exempla of <br /> street kids and their need for summer jobs. <br /> ATTORNEY'S COMMENTS <br /> : We[PhegLCttcad Jill <br /> Vanaman' a newly=inteLyProsecuting <br /> CITIZENS'COMMENTS <br /> Art Skotdal, 1602 Hewitt, spoke to Council about several <br /> downtown problems. He talked about the lack of parking and <br /> suggested that the City build a 300-000 car parking garage. <br /> Stronger enforcement of the parking ordinance by increasing <br /> fines was another suggestion.
